Bridgwater East and Bawdrip Councillor Diogo Rodrigues has launched a petition calling on Somerset Council to reverse the recent one-way system introduced on Salmon Parade and East Quay.
The changes, introduced as part of the Celebration Mile improvements, have caused longer journeys, congestion on surrounding roads, and frustration for drivers and businesses.
Cllr Rodrigues said:
“What used to be a quick and simple route has become a daily headache. You can no longer access Salmon Parade from Broadway southbound. Drivers now have to go all the way down Broadway, around the roundabout and back up again just to reach Eastover or East Quay, or go into Town. The free, and well used, parking spaces along Salmon Parade have been scrapped and replaced with a cycle lane. None of it makes sense. No doubt this was all thought out with good intentions but it’s in fact made life harder for residents and businesses, not easier.”
The petition, which Diogo says he will use to strengthen his voice when speaking with the council on the matter, calls on Somerset Council to restore the previous two-way system on Salmon Parade and East Quay, and to reinstate the parking spaces removed along Salmon Parade.
